Freelance Managing Editor, E-Newsletter:
Ongoing, Highly Competitive Income

America’s premier publisher helping first class and business class frequent flyers get great deals and a better travel experience seeks a freelance professional writer/copywriter to plan and write a multi-issue per week editorial/advertorial e-newsletter going to some 200,000 educated, professional and entrepreneur frequent flyers.

Position is Managing Editor and promises steady, ongoing work and a highly competitive income. We’re looking for a freelancer with a sophisticated style and the kind of personality that loves finding a good deal or a better way to do things and then cluing others in on how to do so. Newsletter content usually derives from web research. Little firsthand reporting is required. Work schedule is flexible.

The publisher, in business 13 years, is located in scenic Monterey, California, however telecommuting is OK. Here are the particulars on the assignment:

Responsibilities:

• Generate and research at least 15-30 article ideas monthly (one for each day of publication), on air travel and related subjects, usually based on web searches, and submit for approval. (Minimal first-hand research required.)
• Write a 500–700 word “tip” article on an approved topic for each edition.
• Write ads and blurbs for company and other products to be sold alongside and through the articles, from established templates. (Ad formats include violators, “OFIEs”, product mini-reviews, paragraph-length product pitches, and product pitches integrated into the articles.)
• Provide email subject lines, keywords, and meta-descriptions for each article.
• Integrate SEO and other Internet search enablers into writing
• Review and approve formatted emails before they are transmitted to readers
• Work with staff to generate and analyze ongoing reader research as to level of acceptance and sales success of each daily email.
• Work with staff on providing ideas and copy for the publication’s website.
• Occasional assignments to write landing pages or other promo material.

Experience & Skills:

• 5+ years as a published writer and/or copywriter, dual experience a big plus
• Business travel and/or airline background a major plus
* Writing for a daily publication a plus
* Direct marketing/Internet copywriting experience a big plus
• Understanding of journalistic techniques and best practices
• Strength in writing to a highly formatted content
• Proven ability to hit deadlines and deliver quality work
• Bachelor’s degree; coursework in communications, journalism, or English helpful.
• Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe
* Informal, yet sophisticated style, reaching an educated audience, many of whom are entrepreneurs, professionals, and other $200K+ earners
* Home or other office facility, including computer, fax, etc.

Personal Traits

• Deadline-conscious and results-oriented
* Enjoys finding and reporting good deals and ways “around the system”
• Takes initiative to identify project needs and creatively solve problems
• Solid work ethic and can-do attitude; reliable and punctual
• Performs best without close supervision, but enjoys collaboration
• Flexible temperament
• Wide-ranging curiosity and sense of humor

To apply, email resume and one writing sample (preferably a newsletter-type article or sales letter) to airtravelpublisher@yahoo.com .
